There's No Need For Receiving Blankets When Babies Are Sent Home In Christmas Stockings

Every parent who has welcomed a baby in a hospital is familiar with the striped hospital-grade receiving blankets that newborns are wrapped up in as soon as they enter the world. But babies spending Christmas at a few hospitals around the country went home in something a bit more festive.

At one of these hospitals, The Magee-Women's Hospital at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, a group of women called the "Magee Knitters" hand-knit close to 200 festive caps for the babies who'd be spending the holiday in the hospital. In addition, the babes were wrapped in red stockings for truly awww-worthy photo opportunities.

"We’ve been sending our Christmas babies home in knitted stockings and caps for years," a spokesperson from the hospital told The Huffington Post, adding, "parents absolutely love the tradition."

Another hospital taking part in the festivities, Long Beach Memorial in California, describes their 50-year-old tradition as "stocking stuffers." A representative from the hospital told The Huffington Post that the parents are notified that they'll be receiving a "special treat."

May we suggest Santa caps next year?
