Diplomacy is as important for keeping Iraq stable as it is for making sure that US troops are not targets of attacks by insurgents, or caught in the crossfire of an explosion of sectarian violence, as we begin to pull back.
Andrew Bacevich, 11.11.2008
Whether attributable to incompetence or negligence or simply the fog and friction of war, the evidence that we are routinely killing the wrong people in Afghanistan is becoming difficult to refute.
Scott Kesterson, 11.11.2008
Some soldiers' opinions I recently wrote about are theirs to have, even though they may be highly unpopular. Being unpopular does not, however, make their opinion any less valid nor criminal.

Eastern Afghanistan--In the early hours of the morning, an Army Captain watched as the election results were being reported. He shook his head in disgust. "This is proof that the media can elect a President."
Vincent Bugliosi, 05.19.2008
To discuss anything less than the death penalty for someone responsible for over 100,000 deaths would on its face seem ludicrous. But we are dealing with the president of the United States here.
Brad Listi, 11.11.2008
Unflinching in its patriotism, Body of War insists on showing us the human costs of Iraq -- a side of the war that most of us never see.
Chris Weigant, 11.17.2008
I'm on a lot of strange press lists, so I get a lot of strange press releases, but this is the first time I've ever gotten one from another dimension, I have to admit.

Today we are sorely lacking informed public debate on national security and what it means to serve just when today's threats put us beyond the protection of the armed services.

Perhaps all that is needed is a good role model for soft power: someone who seeks to engage rather than stand off, capable of dialogue not just debate.
Michael McConnell, 10.28.2008
This is a credit card war. With Congress passing emergency supplemental budgets that are not covered by tax revenues, we have yet to pay a penny out of our own pockets for the war.
Scott Kesterson, 11.06.2008
Talking about the election, the Staff Sergeant said to me, "If there is anything I take away from this, it is that change is fearful."
Arianna Huffington, 09.15.2008
Sarah Palin may not have known what the Bush Doctrine was, but we're getting a pretty good idea of what the Palin Doctrine is. And what is it going to look like? Let's just say, it's going to seem familiar.
Larry Gellman, 11.10.2008
Many McCain apologists have suggested that the meltdown in the stock market over the last month doomed his campaign. That assessment seems far too friendly.

Noam Chomsky's encyclopedic knowledge of political, philosophical and economic issues is simply breathtaking, as is his ability to break complex subjects down to their rawest essentials.
Sean Gilfillan, 11.11.2008
Just as our artists have given us great music to listen to since my return from Iraq, we are now using this music to help the hundreds of thousands of troops who face a host of struggles upon returning home.

No one really knows what to do. I seriously think we need to pull out altogether. The majority of fighting would cease immediately. I'd prefer to see some peaceful resolutions, but it's never going to happen. Iraq's government can't get their act together because of tribal partisanship. Their bitterness goes back in history for way too long.
Bring our troops home to protect our own soil. Let them destroy themselves over there. It's the only strategy that makes sense. Our faithful troops who deserve better than this are nothing but target practice now. God save them all.
Out of the fire....into the frying pan.
Wait. Suddenly when Obama is in charge his objectives become doable? Where the h e l l were these people during the election? Where have they been since 2003? WTF?
Mullen may well retire soon. That happens all the time, when change is coming.
The rubber is meeting the road now.
