So, You Aren't Marrying a Jewish Girl?
The California Gold Rush is definitely on. Tomorrow Diane and I will go to see Rabbi Eger, who will ask us if we are sure about getting married -- even though we've been together for 15 years.

Given their history, Mormons know about being targeted for being different. Yet in a full-on offensive, the LDS Church mobilized in favor of California's Prop 8, a ballot initiative that bans gay marriage.
From a strictly legal perspective, it is next to impossible for courts to enforce the separation of church and state in the context of laws like Proposition 8.
People who voted against marriage equality didn't think, "what's the stupidest most hateful thing I can vote for today?" Some of their criteria is wrong in my opinion, but it's better to look for agreement.
Pull up a chair and settle in while I spin a yarn about 2008. The story actually begins 20 years into the future (visualize a clock advancing rapidly...
Yes, it was a simple, tasteful wedding, with our rabbi, our immediate families, 65 friends, and something we hadn't expected -- more than 100 reporters and photographers from all over the world.
Don't forget the 49% of Asians who voted for Prop 8, the 53% of Latinos and the nearly 50% percent of whites, a group representing 63% of California voters. Last I checked, blacks held little sway over those groups.
The Prop 8 debate has caused polarization between white gay community and African Americans. Saying "Gay is the new black" poses the problems for many African Americans
There are important personal and symbolic reasons for gays to marry in California. But it is a mistake to act without thinking carefully about the serious legal and financial implications.
Obama, never say you support gay and lesbian rights again. You do not. You condone them being bashed, being legislated against. Words are not enough, Obama. Either you're with us, or you're not.
The California Supreme Court has overturned that state's ban on gay marriage. Is marriage a legal right or a sacred rite? Should the state be involved in marriage? Should religious institutions?
If Ms. Roosevelt was around today... would she have used the 60th anniversary of the UDHR the way gay activists have; and would she have endorsed a national boycott in solidarity with them?
One of the most cynical - and successful - claims made during the Yes on Proposition 8 campaign was that unless the proposition passed, our schoolchil...
I am no constitutional expert, but I am pretty sure that the the only time a legal brief counts as a commandment is when God writes it -- on stone (see, e.g., The Bible).
While we rightfully celebrate the election of our first African American president, let us take a moment to mourn the passage of three new laws legalizing prejudice.
As someone who was raised in the Mormon Church and fulfilled my two-year missionary assignment overseas, I know something about Latter-day Saints teachings.

I'm bisexual. How can you limit my freedom to marry a man and a woman? Or two men and two women? Or four men and my sister? (Wasn't that a movie? No, it was her date last Saturday night)
Wow...waiting until March is like having to wait from June this year until Obama finally won the election. I love suspense as much as anyone but this is gonna kill me! Fortunately I don't bite my fingernails or else I would be in trouble.
I am a straight person hoping to see 8 overturned. Equality for all!
Secondly, I am surprised I am not seeing more on how it only takes a simple majority vote to amend the California Constitution. That clearly should require a 2/3 majority, IMHO.
WE DESPERATELY NEED STRAIGHT VOICES to join in this chorus!
If only our loves ones could truly love us without shame.
Can you imagine if every mother told her government, "Until my son has Marriage Equality, I will
refuse to file my income taxes." Then every son would not feel so alone.
Can you imagine if every daughter told her government, "Until my father has Marriage Equality, I will
refuse to file my income taxes." Then every father would not feel so alone.
Then every LGBTIQ child or parent would know...in their hearts...that their lives are as valuable as the lives of other family members who enjoy the legal benefits, protections, and security of marriage. For I seriously doubt any mother would be silent if her heterosexual sons or daughters were being denied civil marriage based on whom they love. I seriously doubt our mothers and fathers would miss out on seeing their children experience "one of the most important days of their lives"....or at least I hear it is one of the most important days....I wouldn't know.
PLEASE NOTE - Fathers and brothers need to speak out also, but since many hetero-men have problems with the "ick factor", I'm putting my faith in the strength of women to begin this tax revolt against our government's criminally-insane laws against our FAMILY.
Everyone we have to keep fighting, go to www.civilrightsfront.com and participate in this campaign to promote gay rights. That means you too my fellow straights. We must ALL stand for our rights or in the end none of us will have any rights at all.
