Reagan is often looked upon as the Republicans' FDR. But Reagan sold the nation a bag of goods. We can finally see clearly the failed results of this three-decade experiment in laissez-faire capitalism.

Last week a mix of water and sanitation experts gathered for World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden to mull over the world's biggest public health crisis. The problem is that not enough people paid attention.

Biden's competence will help Obama be able to remain Obama. Insider or not, Biden is liked by the country -- and he's smart.

The part I find so maddening about this turn of events is the reason given for the absence of a female contender.
Robert Schlesinger, 08.21.2008
So it was 150 years ago today (August 21, 1858) that Abe Lincoln and Stephen Douglas first ascended to a hastily-constructed stage to debate the issue...

A military commander tested in wartime, a Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, a Secretary of State, a Vice President Powell would strengthen Obama's candidacy more deeply and more consummately than any other American.

In the debate, McCain repeated long debunked lies about Obama's record on the Illinois Born Alive Protection Act, lies that have been repeated and promoted since Alan Keyes lost to Obama in the

Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has vetoed a Senate Bill and green-lit two new coal plants -- 11 million tons of CO2.

Obama should take a page from George Bush and pick the head of his search committee: Caroline Kennedy. She's been witness to the inner-workings of government for decades while maintaining her role as an outsider.
Steve Clemons, 08.19.2008
Be thankful for radio silence I guess when other candidates for VP like Daschle and Bayh are getting phone calls saying, "Sorry....but we look forward to working with you in many other ways in the coming years."
David Roberts, 11.05.2007
The fossil fuel lobby is panicking. Kansas was recently the site of a bold repudiation of coal and now look at the slime Big Coal put out in several Kansas newspapers today.

People give you this whole rap about how easy saving the planet is. Change a light bulb and save the world. Yes and no. How about we consider it a start rather than an end destination?

Jim Slattery, a candidate for U.S. Senate in Kansas, dropped by Netroots Nation this morning to talk about how progressives can make inroads in the heartland.

When it comes to electing the president, the better communicator almost always wins. This truth did not bode well for Hillary Clinton, nor does it look good for John McCain.
Glenn Hurowitz, 08.09.2008
Unfortunately, the coterie of cautious centrists being touted by the Obama campaign as short-listers for the vice presidential nod are hardly up to the task of taking on the Republican attack machine.

You just don't get it. Hillary supporters are turning a new page. We're gone and will make sure our votes count. McCain 08. It will be humorous seeing Obama try to pander to us. Obama and his mean supporters have done this to themselves. Even Hillary can't change the math for him.
Very funny post, Chris. And I don't smile often. Good job.
That's possibly the best thing I've read on HuffPost, with apologies to Bill Maher whose blogs I haven't seen much of here ... Eva Peron is a beautiful idea, the state-sponsored economic shock therapy and junta-forming magic combined with Obama being from the Chicago School (or at least being near a school in Chicago) is truly a winning combination.
Eva Peron would insulate Obama from being soft on terror. It would be easy for that ticket to play the terror by association card as Argentina was a neighbor during the original 9-11 of Chile in 1973 when Pinochet (with the help of the CIA and ITT) terrorized the country while Milton Friedman's Chicago School of economists busily worked on the a bible or brick of economic shock therapy to be put in place to privatize and plunder Chile. It's not really that different a worldview than Blackwater, so America should be ready for it.
very funny
the column and the posts
but go back to school,
where are we headed; what will probably happen; what is the worst that could happen???
you are all missing the obvious best pick
fortunately Obama is smarter than all of you and probably has him near the top of the list
you know, all of the speculating is moot, because Obama must have good chemistry with his vp and only he can evaluate that
and there is one issue where this candidate could be an achilles heel or a gift from god depending on whether he's strong enough to embrace the obvious
enough clues for now
(oh, it's not one of the Manning Brothers)
Co-Vice Presidents! Katie Couric and John Edwards. The three of them will look like the local news/weather/sports crew and they'll sweep all before them.
