It is good news that the CFTC is awakening from its reverie and beginning to deal with the core issues of oil trading. But it is still too much of a hit/miss operation with a degree of insouciance.
William Bradley, 08.29.2008
John McCain doesn't like that he's lost the change mantle to Barack Obama. We shouldn't expect to see too much more from Team McCain about how inexperienced Senator Obama is.

Why is it that our media hardly ever gets it right and lets the oil industry and the speculators run roughshod over our pocketbooks?
Leighton Woodhouse, 09.02.2008
If Palin's approach to taxation of the oil industry reflected a governing philosophy that drove her vision for the country at large, I might just be tempted to revise my opinion of the McCain ticket.
Paul Abrams, 09.03.2008
Had Reagan left CAFE standards in place, and the U.S. had continued to conserve oil at the same rate as it had from 1979-85, we would be importing not a single drop of oil from the Persian Gulf.
Robert Scheer, 09.03.2008
Looking to Palin for advice on helping the rest of us during the oil crunch is a bit like asking Putin to provide a model for our nation's economic woes. They hardly feel our pain at the pump.

Cause and effect? You decide. Consider the time frame.
David Fiderer, 08.25.2008
Nuclear reactors and oil are both types of energy, just as apples and vodka both types of calories. No one in the real world considers one to be an economic substitute for the other.
Maura Judkis, 08.29.2008
Palin believes that we should drill in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which McCain has previously opposed. She also supports offshore drilling.

Last week a mix of water and sanitation experts gathered for World Water Week in Stockholm, Sweden to mull over the world's biggest public health crisis. The problem is that not enough people paid attention.

Bush and the Republicans have thwarted attempt after attempt by Democrats to pop the speculative oil bubble and provide relief to consumers. Each time, Republicans sided with Big Oil over the American people.

Were we to learn that the supply of oil is limitless, the emperor's clothes would evaporate and the price of oil would collapse.
Chris Kelly, 06.27.2008
John McCain may not know what gas costs or when he last pumped any, or performed any other act not connected to politics or outpatient care, but he's had hundreds of town hall meetings.

Gov. Palin has said that the war in Iraq is "God's task" for America. The cost of the the war is catastrophic in terms of human life lost (oh yeah, she's prolife), damage to the environment (bombs, wreckage, pollution), and our economy (over $2 trillion added to the national debt). I wonder what war she believe should be next in God's plan for America... Iran?
SHe doesnt believe global warming is man made and less than a couple of days after she was chosen hurricanes and tropical storms are hatching in the atlantic like crazy. On the day of the republican convention in week we had Gustav there is Hanna, Ike and Josephine is getting ready to form in one week but there is no such thing as gloabl warming right? Press Release
Palin Pleased with Obama's Energy Plan
Includes Alaska's Natural Gas Reserves
Governor Sarah Palin today responded to the energy plan put forward by the presumptive Democratic nominee for President, Illinois Senator Barack Obama.
"I am pleased to see Senator Obama acknowledge the huge potential Alaska's natural gas reserves represent in terms of clean energy and sound jobs," Governor Palin said. "The steps taken by the Alaska State Legislature this past week demonstrate that we are ready, willing and able to supply the energy our nation needs."
In a speech given in Lansing, Michigan, Senator Obama called for the completion of the Alaska natural gas pipeline, stating, "Over the next five years, we should also lease more of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska for oil and gas production. And we should also tap more of our substantial natural gas reserves and work with the Canadian government to finally build the Alaska natural gas pipeline, delivering clean natural gas and creating good jobs in the process."
Governor Palin also acknowledged the Senator's proposal to offer $1,000 rebates to those struggling with the high cost of energy.

It is called hurricane season . . . happens every year doesn't it?
I think it's quite obvious to anyone with a brain that to elect a 72 year old man, with a nobody as their VP, is WAY too risky. Let the facts speak for themselves...
I think the only way this could help republicans, is if it's perceived that she is getting beat up on. Remember what happened when Hillary cried. She got a huge bump from the women voters.
(and leave the family and personal stuff out of it!)
i want to hear here debate biden. im making popcorn.
It doesn't come down to the debate. It comes down to the moderator. Tim Russert would never allow someone as unskillful as this to pass him by. He would ask her the hardest of the hardest questions. We have to hope whomever it is, they do the job.
"Tim Russert would never allow someone as unskillful as this to pass him by"
Did he have a shot at Obama? List what great things he has done that Palin hasn't and vice versa.
