Coronation Festival Is An Excuse For The Royal Family To Look At Inanimate Objects

In case the Diamond Jubilee and the birth of an heir weren't enough royal action for you this year, today's Coronation Festival should give you a healthy dose of the British royal family. The four-day fest, which kicked off today at Buckingham Palace, celebrates the 60th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's coronation, and it's being hosted by the Royal Warrant Holders Association.

What is the Royal Warrant Holders Association, you say? It's an association that represents all the companies holding Royal Warrants of Appointment, which are earned for having supplied goods or services for at least five years to the households of the queen, the Duke of Edinburgh or Prince Charles. The companies boasting Royal Warrants of Appointment are so varied as to include Hunter Boots, Peter Jones, Bendicks Chocolates and Savile Row tailors like Gieves & Hawkes and Johns & Pegg.

Which means the royal family spent the first day of the Coronation Festival walking around and looking at items made by all these brands. Here are the best photos from the day.
