Everyone finds their own trusted method of making themselves smile. There are countless ways that people search for happiness, but we’ve whittled it down to ten tips to be happy in your daily life. Spoilers: Ingredients include positivity, health, and breaking out of comfort zones.

10 Ways To Be Happy Every Day

1. Be active

It doesn’t matter what the activity is, as long as you get moving! Being active will strengthen your body and soul, but also physically challenge you in new ways. You’d be surprised at how good you feel about your health and self-esteem.

2. Be social

It’s good to maintain good relationships with the people around you. Take time out of your daily schedule to catch up with a friend over drinks, go home to your parents’ place for the weekend, or go paintballing with your significant other. Keep yourself surrounded with positive people and bond over good times.

3. Treat yourself

From time to time, it’s important to take time out just for yourself to do the indulgent things you want. So go ahead and book an evening in to play five consecutive hours of video games, and splurge on that jacket you’ve been eyeing for weeks. Everyone deserves a break once in a while.

4. Eat good foods

You are what you eat. Not that it’s bad to indulge in a slice of cake, but consider the food that goes through your body. Eating healthy -- such as getting your vegetables, protein, sugars, and vitamins -- doesn’t have to be a chore. Try out a new recipe at home, for starters.

5. Do something new

Why not break out of your routine order and try out a dish you’ve never eaten before? Listen to a genre of music you normally wouldn’t find in your iPod. Surprise yourself by doing things you normally wouldn’t try. Maybe you’ll find a new hobby out of it!

6. Find joy in the simple things

Watch a thunderstorm, skip stones, smell the flowers, skip through a field -- try any and every movie cliché you’ve ever seen! Not that those tropes are bad, of course. As long as it brings you happiness, who cares if they’re clichéd?

7. Appreciate art

Be inspired by the creative histories; check out that foreign film you’ve wanted to see, go take a trip to a museum, observe a piece of graffiti. There’s always time to be inspired by the things surrounding you, and it’s possible to find art in anything. Cultivate your own personal taste!

8. Compliment others

Look for the positive aspects of everyone you meet. This person may have a fabulous fashion sense, and that person may have a very nice smile. If you look for the good in strangers, you’ll find it easy to be genuine about the compliments you give. Bringing joy to others can brighten up your day, too.

9. Travel

You don’t necessarily have to hop on a plane to travel. Visit the next town, drive through new parks you haven’t explored. Plan a road trip with friends and see new sights. Seeing the world outside of your comfort zone is always an exhilarating experience, and it keeps you waiting for the next adventure.

10. Never stop learning

Whether it’s learning a new language or learning how to play an instrument from scratch, keeping your brain learning will not only keep you mentally active, but you may also gain a few new skills along the way (You never know when your Tibetan throat singing skill may come in handy).
