It’s been 20 years since “Ironic” first found its angsty foothold in pop culture — now Alanis Morissette is offering a fresh twist on her famous lyrics.
Appearing on the "Late Late Show with James Corden" on Monday, the Ottawa-born singer put on a red toque — reminiscent of the one she wore in 1995’s ‘Ironic” music video — and sang revised verses to reflect struggles of everyday social media users.
“It’s a funny tweet that nobody faves, and who would’ve thought it figures,” sang Morissette and host Corden. The pair continued their duet, “It’s like Netflix, but you own DVDs / It’s a free ride, but your Uber’s down the street.”
The singer also finally admitted, much like people have been saying for years, that there are no ironies in her coincidence-ridden song.
But a bigger problem Morissette unabashedly pointed out was how little late night TV has changed in two decades in terms of female hosts — specifically, that there are none.
Zing. It’s some good advice let’s hope Hollywood will take.
