Snowfall warnings continued for parts of Alberta on Sunday, after an intense low-pressure system made its way across southern and central parts of the province, producing a total of 10 to 25 centimetres of snow.

A further 2 to 5 centimetres of snow is possible in the Hanna and Lloydminster region before it tapers off on Sunday evening, according to Environment Canada.

Edmontonians awoke to a snow-covered capital, the first big snowfall of the season for the city.

Calgary police reported 111 crashes between a.m. Saturday and 6 a.m. Sunday, including a rollover on Symons Valley Road near Mountain View Road N.W. that sent two children and a woman to hospital, the Calgary Herald reports.

Ten collisions were also reported on Highway 2 on Saturday, two of which involved injuries.

Both collisions are under investigation and speed and weather conditions are being investigated as factors.

RCMP say reduced visibility due to blowing snow and snow-covered roads with slippery sections will make for prolonged emergency response times and did not recommend unnecessary travel.
