Bosom friends, rejoice!
The new adaptation of "Anne of Green Gables" will be streaming on Netflix in 2017 while also airing on CBC.
The series, simply titled "Anne," was announced earlier this year and will be helmed by quite a few women including Niki Caro, who will direct the two-hour series premiere; Miranda de Pencier, who produces the series; and Emmy Award winner Moira Walley-Beckett, who is writing the entire eight-episode first season.

Netflix says the series will honour the original 1908 book, written by Lucy Maud Montgomery, but will also add new storylines, "reflecting timeless issues including themes of identity, sexism, bullying, prejudice, and trusting one's self."
The story, for those few who haven't read the books or watched the original 1985 TV mini-series starring Megan Follows and the late Jonathan Crombie, centres around Anne Shirley, an orphan who accidentally ends up living with two elderly siblings in their green gabled house on Prince Edward Island.

"I adore Anne! Exploring and expanding her story with new depth for a new generation has been exhilarating!" Walley-Beckett said in a statement.
The series will stream on Netflix Canada at a later date but for now, it's time to gather your kindred spirits for a "Anne of Green Gables" book club night and TV viewing.
