Dawson Creek Shooting: Anonymous Reportedly Crashes RCMP Website In Retaliation

Anonymous Vows Revenge, Crashes RCMP Site After Police Shooting

UPDATE - July 20, 2015: The coroners' service has issued a news release identifying the victim as 48-year-old James Daniel McIntyre of Dawson Creek.

A police-involved shooting in Dawson Creek on July 17 has caused retaliation from international activist group Anonymous.

The RCMP website crashed a day after the group vowed to "avenge one of our own."

A Twitter account associated with the group posted screenshots showing the site's server status as "down."

The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia, the province's police watchdog, said a man wearing a mask approached police in an aggressive manner outside the Fixx Urban Grill.

The location was the site of an open house for the site C dam project, and an apparent Anonymous protest.

Although police have confirmed the man who was shot was wearing a mask, authorities are not confirming if it was the Guy Fawkes mask associated with the group, according to the Victoria Times Colonist.

Anonymous is vowing to "dox" the officer involved, which means they will search for and publicize the officer's private information.

Officers have collected a knife and other physical evidence as part of their investigation into the incident, and are looking for additional witnesses or video.

β€œI have not had time to gather specific details from our forensic specialist with the exception that the knife was located here at the scene,” Kellie Kilpatrick, executive director of public accountability with the IIOBC said July 17.

Tweets associated with Anonymous identify the victim as Dennis Collins, but the B.C. Coroners Service says it likely won't release the victim's identity until Monday at the earliest, according to the CBC.
