April Fools Day Joke Or Not, Lauren Conrad's Purple Hair Is Cool

April Fools Day has come and gone but Lauren Conrad may have pulled off the best fashion prank ever: dyeing her hair purple.

The former "The Hills" reality star debuted her new look on her blog on April 1, but what's not certain is whether the pastel shade was real or not.

In the blog post, LC writes:

"I really didn’t think that purple was my color, but after seeing several others wear it recently, I decided to give it a try."

Update: Conrad's stylist Kristin Ess confirmed that it was an April Fools prank. On April 2, she wrote on Instagram:

"To get this exact shade of purple, we went out and gathered rare amethyst stones. Next, we ground them up by hand until they turned into a fine powder. Then we added 2 pinches of grape koolaid. Mix that in a bowl with 2 oz. of mermaid tears. Apply all over and let it sit for 16 hours. Lather, rinse, repeat. #aprilfoolsyall#shedoesntevenlikepurple."

However, US Weekly claims to be skeptical, citing a previous interview where the Paper Crown designer said that she's not into the purple hair trend that has cropped up all over Hollywood.

"I'm not a big fan of purple as a colour," she said. "It looks great on them but not me."

Celebs who have recently gone lilac include Nicole Richie and Ireland Baldwin (who quickly ditched the hue for a blue 'do).

Whether or not the trendy spring colour is real or fake- we think Lauren's purple hair is stunning.
