Backstreet's Back -- but not in Tel Aviv.
The Backstreet Boys have cancelled three upcoming concerts in Israel, citing "security" concerns in the wake of Operation Protective Edge.
This marks the third series of shows pushed back in light of rising tensions and hostilities in the Middle East. Paul Anka and Neil Young & Crazy Horse have also cancelled or postponed their scheduled performances in the country.
The "Larger Than Life" singers broke the news to their fans on their website on Sunday, with this open letter:
"Our dear BSB fans,
We are very sorry to inform you that the BSB concerts planned for July 29-30-31 at the Raanana Amphitheater have been postponed. This is a major disappointment for the band and fans as this was to be our first visit to Israel and we looked forward to meeting our fans. We're already working with the producers on new dates during Spring 2015 and will notify everyone about this as soon as possible.
Sending lots of love to everyone."
Tal Sherf, an Israeli promoter, told The Hollywood Reporter the band still plans to perform in the country, and will look into rescheduling the dates for an upcoming tour.
"We know many loyal fans of the band in Israel were expecting and very excited about these concerts," said Sherf. "We can say that we've been working on new dates for the months of March - April, spring 2015."
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show sold out nearly immediately, and two additional Tel Aviv concerts were added to the international tour to accommodate the high demand. All three performances were reportedly sold out.
The band plans to honour the tickets for the rescheduled dates, and has also made refunds available to their fans.
Several other artists are still slated to perform in Israel this summer, including Cee Lo Green in Jerusalem on Aug. 19, and Lana Del Rey and Lady Gaga in Tel Aviv on Aug. 20, and Sept. 13, respectively.
