Most of us have grown up with bananas: we learned how to peel them, used them in pranks and ate them until they became one of our favourite fruits.
But Dan Koeppel, author of Banana: The Fate of the Fruit That Changed The World says as much as we love consuming this sweet yellow-skinned fruit, most of us don't know a lot about its history.

"The banana we eat is just one of thousands of different banana breeds," he says in the Buzzfeed video above. "This one banana is actually not the first banana Americans ate, the first banana was a totally different breed called the Gros Michel, and it went extinct mostly through neglect and banana industry's stupidity."
