Underwater Tunnel To Toronto Airport Finally Happening

An underwater walkway tunnel to an airport isn't something that most cities spend $82 million on, but for Toronto it's a reality.

The 200-metre tunnel is being dug 30 metres below Lake Ontario and is meant to to accompany the existing ferry ride that transports travellers from the city's downtown core to the island airport. The project is being run by the Toronto Port Authority.

Construction on the airport tunnel is finally making progress – but it looks like there’s still a lot of work to be done.

The project initially began in 2010 and was meant to be wrapped up by August 2013, but several construction barriers and noise complaints led to a delay.

The current estimated completion is winter 2014-2015, according to the National Post.
