Anthony Mayse, 9-Year-Old North Carolina Boy, Says He Was Fat-Shamed By Santa

Anthony Mayse said Saint Nick told him to lay off the hamburgers and fries.

Sitting on Santa’s lap is supposed to be a fun moment for a kid, but one nine-year-old said Saint Nick made him feel bad about himself instead.

Anthony Mayse visited Father Christmas last weekend with his mom in Forest City, N.C., and decided to ask him for an iPod Touch and a drone, according to WTVD.

But he did not expect Santa’s response.

"And when I got done, he said 'lay off the hamburgers and French fries,'" the boy said.

"And that really just disrespected me and I felt awful."

Mom Ashley Mayse told WLOS she was shocked by Santa’s rudeness.

"I've never seen anything like it," she said.

"What set me off is when he started crying."

Anthony even tore up his picture with Father Christmas.

Santa resigns after apologizing

But the man in the suit resigned from his role on Tuesday, according to The Huffington Post.

“On Saturday, December 3, the individual who played Santa Claus at the Santa House in Forest City made a remark that he regretted,” Forest City town manager John Condrey told HuffPost in a statement.

“He apologized to the parent, the child and the Town.”

Ashley Mayse said she’s glad he’s gone.

Anthony told WLOS he knows what he’d say to Santa if he got the chance to talk to him again.

"I want to say to him, 'You don't want to disrespect a nine-year-old. Even though what shape and size you are, it doesn't matter.'"
