The world of piercing is nothing new to most fashionistas. Whether it's the ears, the nose, the belly button or the nipple (hi, Kendall), many of us have taken the plunge and got ourselves some body jewels.
But what if we told you the latest trend in the hair world has something to do with piercing, too? It sounds silly, but the results are beautiful. Yup, grab your rings because it's time to poke some holes in your hair... this is braid piercing.
Sure, sporting braids is nothing new. And wearing earrings definitely isn't either. But when hair and jewelry meet? It sure is a beautiful, shiny new thing.
Hair rings first caught our attention this past summer when hair master Guido Palau used the gold metal accents in Valentino's Renaissance-inspired haute couture runway show in Paris. The hair was elegant, subtle and incredibly trendy. We fell in love.
And then hair guru Chris Appleton came along. A stylist to the stars, he became known for adorning intricate braids with trinkets, charms and other metal favours.
Christina Aguilera, Ariana Grande and Kim Kardashian have all been spotted rocking the hairstyle, as have Shay Mitchell and beauty guru Lottie Tomlinson.
So, want to get the look like the celebs? It's easy.
In the video below, YouTube hair guru Imogen of Foxy Locks Girls starts off by making a voluminous fishtail braid. When it comes down to it, you can make any braid your heart desires — French braids, side braids, Dutch braids, boxer braids, etc. Always create your base hairstyle first.
Then, it's time for the fun part! Grab your hair rings. Yes, rings for your hair. We love these adjustable ones from ASOS. Open your little rings and loop them into a section of your braid. Put them wherever you like (Imogen places them sporadically down her braid).
Yes, braid lovers. The trend is THAT easy!
And there you have it. Your officially the coolest girl on Instagram. Now get out there and flaunt your pierced braid!
