Child Support Clerical Error Leaves Dad With Jail Time, Jobless

Child Support Clerical Error Lands Dad In Jail

In 2013, a clerical error landed a Texas father in jail after he received a bill stating that he owed nearly $3,000 in overdue child support. After receiving the notification, Clifford Hall immediately repaid the amount owed and even paid an additional $1,000 towards his debt. Unfortunately, the repayment wasn’t enough and the then 43-year-old father was sentenced to six months in jail.

Luckily, in the end, Hall only spent 13 days in prison after his case was reviewed. He was then released and was able to see his 12-year-old son. “That was what he was most excited about,” Tyesha Elam, Hall’s attorney, said.

But despite the fact that the error was fixed, Hall still suffered major consequences. Because of his jail time, the Houston father lost his job.

In the video above, Hall discusses the struggles of bouncing back two years later and how the incident has affected both his financial situation and his relationship with his son.
