Deer Chases Dog Through Prince Rupert, B.C.

AND THEY'RE OFF!

Posted by Samantha Nicole on Friday, July 10, 2015

It started out as a walk like any other.

Lance Clark of Prince Rupert, B.C., took his two dogs, Gino and Mya, out for their routine stroll. After a while, Clark let the pug and Rhodesian ridgeback off their leashes.

Right away, they "took off into the bushes," Clark wrote on Facebook.

Then, things hit the fan.

"Next thing I see is Mya and Gino, running out of the bushes 40 feet ahead of me with a medium sized deer in hot pursuit."

Looking to stop the chase, Clark, who has a broken wrist, called his dogs back to him — but the deer followed right behind.

"The dogs kept running right past me, and I started waving my one good arm in the air," the pet owner wrote. "I didn't think the deer was going to stop running towards me, [but] it veered off into the bushes [mere] feet from me."

Seconds later, the deer came charging back and chased Mya down the street. The pug had stopped to wait for Clark, but the bigger dog was nowhere in sight.

Clark hopped in his car and started searching for Mya, running into neighbours who said they'd seen the pair tearing across town. One woman even took a quick video of the chase. (Watch above.)

Eventually, the dog somehow managed to ditch the deer and make it home on her own, safe and sound.

"I take the dogs quite regularly for walks at night, and we see deer all over the place. We get them in our front yard, backyard, everywhere," he told HuffPost B.C. over the phone.

"I'm really wondering now what my dogs will do the next time around," he said.
