It seems Republicans and Democrats share some common ground after all, at least according to a new study from the University of British Columbia.
U.S. Democrats and Republicans were asked to rate the 40 figures on Time magazine's People of the Century list and the data was analyzed to see which figures were most divisive and if there were general areas where liberals and conservatives agree.
The study found most moral disagreements between adherents of the two parties are on issues of authority and sexuality. Areas of agreement were on issues of fairness, caring and loyalty. You can read the full study here.
"The findings suggest that progress on divisive social issues is more likely when the discussion is framed as a question of fairness and care for humanity - that's where common moral ground exists," said Jeremy Frimer, who led the study, according to a press release.
The study also produced a list of how divisive the figures were among followers of the two parties. You can see who brought the survey group together and who divided it in the slideshow below.
NOTE: List is from least to most divisive. A positive divisiveness score implies conservatives favored the figure while a negative score implies liberals favored the figure.
