Diner En Blanc Toronto: Guests Show Us How To Wear White In The Rain

You Can Wear White, Even In The Rain

It can be difficult to wear white, especially when you're caught in the middle of a rainstorm.

But that's exactly what some 1,400 sartorially smart Torontonians did late last week in honour of Dîner en Blanc. The premise of the event, which began over 20 years ago in Paris, is simple: invitees show up at a "surprise" location with elegant picnic gear (we're talking crystal glasses, china plates and epicurean food) while donning only white duds. Après eating, guests then take over the public space where the event happens and dance and play with sparklers under a rain-or-shine sky.

Similar picnics are set to happen in Montreal and Quebec City on August 16, and in Vancouver on August 30. The Toronto event took place at Fort York (one of the city's most historical sites).

Wondering how guests could keep it classy -- and sans wet T-shirt contest -- even in the dampest of conditions? Check out some snaps from the event.
