It's an exciting time for Canadian soccer fans. The Women's World Cup is on home turf, attendance is at an all-time high and Team Canada is on track for one of its better performances.
But make no mistake — this hasn't been an overnight fairy tale trip to the top. This is a team that's been in the making since 2011, when coach John Herdman took over. Combine a fresh mentor with medal-winning performances at the London Summer Olympics in 2012, and at the 2011 Pan Am Games, and it's no wonder why there's a rising sense of power behind this team.
But it's more than just pride Canadians feel when they hear names like Christine Sinclair, Karina LeBlanc or Jessie Fleming. Now, there's a genuine sense of excitement to watch our team perform. That much will be evident when Canada hits the pitch for the quarter-finals against England on Saturday, June 27.
