Highway 63 Crash: Driver Of Pickup Truck Dies After Collision

Fatal Crash On Highway To Oilsands
Boyle RCMP

One person is dead after a pickup truck lost control and struck a tractor trailer on Highway 63.

RCMP say the driver of the pickup truck sustained fatal injuries. The highway is expected to remain closed for several hours and traffic continues to be diverted at the Atmore Junction and at Highway 881.

Poor winter driving conditions continue to exist in the area and RCMP advise caution for those travelling on these roadways.

About 50 people have died since 2006 on Highway 63, the link between the Edmonton area to the oilsands region.

The Alberta government announced its plan to begin begin twinning the 240-kilometre highway in 2006, and announced it was fast-tracked for competition by the fall of 2016 in October of last year.
