Allo from Le Huffington Post Québec!

Quebec is witnessing a revolution this morning with the launch of Le Huffington Post Québec. We think that, in the current financial times, the launch of a new media player in Quebec provides a breath of fresh air that says the future is indeed online.

This is a translated blog post by Patrick White, Managing Editor of HuffPost Québec, on the launch of the French-language site for Quebecers.

Québec is witnessing a revolution this morning with the launch of Le Huffington Post Québec. We hope this site -- in French for Quebecers and by Quebecers -- will open a window to a new world.

That's why I'm along for this ride and excited to tackle this great challenge. The Huffington Post has set the bar high in how it serves up news, opinions, blogs, viral content, and social media. We want to provide the best content on the web and allow you to share and comment on it on the platforms of your choice.

We think that, in the current financial times, the launch of a new media player in Quebec provides a breath of fresh air that says the future is indeed online.

Since 2005, HuffPost has led the way in online news and opinion, covering politics and other topics, while leveraging the power of social media. HuffPost's style, its mix of high and low brow, its irreverent takes coupled with its serious commitment to journalism, translates well into any language.

Le Huffington Post Québec will deliver unbiased coverage on everything, from general news to politics to entertainment to sports. For example this week we'll be covering Montreal Fashion Week -- and running feature interviews with leading politicians. In the arts, author Marie-Sissi Labrèche and drummer Julien Sagot of Karkwa will be featured. Quebec's celebrities and star system will shine regularly on the site. And while cynicism abounds in politics, we hope to inject thoughtful coverage and spark civilized debate with and amongst our bloggers.

Le Huffington Post Québec wants you to join in those debates. This morning, blogger Mélanie Joly talks about the future of Montreal and the challenges ahead; professor Louis Balthazar wonders about the decline of the U.S. Republican Party, journalist Francine Pelletier writes about feminism in 2012 by looking at Quebec female singing sensation Coeur de pirate, and TV personality Anne-Marie Whitenshaw talks with famed movie producer Xavier Dolan.

As Anne Sinclair said a few weeks ago at the launch of Le Huffington Post France, our ambitions are big, but we do so with modest means. I believe Le Huffington Post Québec will make a difference in the Quebec media landscape, and bring more diversity to the the voices heard and debated.

We'll need you to help us carry out this revolution. Our comments are open and I welcome you to join the conversation.
