Justin Trudeau's Grey Cup Video Message Met With Boos

"Anything can happen on Grey Cup Sunday,'' Trudeau said. Like booing.

It seems even the Grey Cup wasn't immune to the #TrudeauEulogies backlash that permeated the news headlines and dogged the prime minister this weekend.

Before the 104th edition of the CFL final kicked off Sunday night, a video message from Trudeau was broadcast on the screens at Toronto's BMO field, where the Ottawa Redblacks faced off against the Calgary Stampeders. Trudeau is currently in Madagascar leading the Canadian delegation to the summit of la Francophonie.

"As we all know, anything can happen on Grey Cup Sunday,'' Trudeau said. "I'm looking forward to it like everyone else.''

Except the PM may not have been anticipating the barrage of boos from some fans that followed his message:

TVO's Steve Paikin observed some additional criticism levelled at Trudeau from fans:

Following news of Fidel Castro's death, Trudeau issued a statement in which he remembered the former Cuban leader as a friend of his father's, praised his educational programs, and called Castro "controversial." His statement was met with harsh criticism from politicians and mockery from the Twitterverse. On Sunday, the Prime Minister said that Castro was a dictator.

And on Grey Cup Sunday, boos happen, apparently.
