Was Lupita Nyong'o's Skin Lightened In Vanity Fair?

Did Vanity Fair Lighten Her Skin?

Lupita Nyong'o is quickly becoming a fashion star (and rightly so!).

From her 2013 Toronto Film Festival red carpet debut to her ravishing 2014 Golden Globes cape and her recent Dazed & Confused cover, the Kenyan-raised beauty is quickly rising through the ranks.

So it's no surprise that the "12 Years A Slave" star (and recent Oscar nominee) caught the eye of the editors at Vanity Fair.

The magazine chose to feature the 29-year-old in their Vanities section for their February 2014 issue and posted the photo on Twitter.

Here's what a few of them had to say:

This isn't the first time a black star has been given the lightening treatment: Beyoncé's 2008 L'Oreal ad ignited controversy when it appeared as if the company "white-washed" her skin and Elle magazine was accused of lightening actress Gabourey Sidibe's skin for their cover.

What do you think? Did Vanity Fair deliberately lighten Lupita's skin or did they just brighten it? Let us know in the comments below!
