M.A.C Viva Glam Fashion Cares: A Look Back At The 25-Year-Old Fundraiser

After 25 Years Fashion Cares Calls It Quits

After 25 years, the iconic fundraising gala Fashion Cares is about to call it quits -- in a fabulous and fashionable way, of course.

The event's grand finale will happen on Sunday, Sept. 9 (as part of the Toronto International Film Festival) and will be headlined by the glitziest celeb of them all, Sir Elton John. Of taking the final fundraising bow, Michael King, co-chair of Fashion Cares, told The Toronto Star: “The days of the mega fundraiser is fading, I think this is a natural milestone to end on.”

Because the night is all about fashion, expect to see a ton of designers and fashionable celeb faces (we will bring you all the red-carpet coverage) -- there will also be performances by Janelle Monae, Scissor Sisters, Shawn Desman and Jully Black. "Being invited back to sing in the name of love brings me such joy, and thanks to the humanitarian efforts of M.A.C, more people are now able to afford to live longer, happier lives," Black tells The Huffington Post Canada.

Fashion Cares launched a quarter of a century ago to benefit the M.A.C AIDS Fund; the fundraiser's final event will distribute its proceeds between the AIDS Committee of Toronto and the Elton John AIDS Foundation. To date, Fashion Cares has raised almost $12 million for charity.

To honour this icon of fashionable fundraising, take a look back at some of the photos from Fashion Cares' past. If you're interested, tickets are still available for the fête on Ticketmaster.
