With a turn and a bounce in their steps, 41 young women will hit the stage of the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond on Wednesday and Thursday for the 2013 Miss World Canada competition.
The festivities begin with a preliminary competition Wednesday night, to be followed by an official crowning the next day, said a May 2 news release.
Whoever wins Miss World Canada will represent her country at the later Miss World pageant. Contestants must show a commitment to humanitarianism and philanthropy, raising money for Variety Children's Charity in the months leading up to the event, says the Miss World Canada website.
The Miss World Canada winner will receive a three-week, all-inclusive training package in Greater Vancouver before heading off to the Miss World competition. The first runner-up wins a four-night luxury getaway in Las Vegas, with the second runner-up staying in Las Vegas three nights and the third runner-up two nights.
But Miss World Canada doesn't just crown one winner. Thursday's event will also hand out awards including People's Choice Winner, Best International Costume and the Best Positive Body Image Award. Judges will also award Miss Congeniality to the contestant who shows the best overall participation and spirit.
