'Murdoch Mysteries' Season 7: CBC Announces 18 New Episodes

"Murdoch Mysteries" fans rejoice: CBC has announced the show will be back for a seventh season.

Since making its debut on City in 2008, the turn-of-the-century detective drama has been a hit with Canadian audiences, who've grown to appreciate the series' old-timey charm and plucky cast -- and, in particular, Yannick Bisson's earnest portrayal of handsome detective William Murdoch.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper will be pleased -- he says he's never missed an episode and even went so far as to seek out a cameo role on the show, playing a clueless cop in episode "Confederate Treasure" in Season 4.

And there's even more good news for "Murdoch" lovers: Season 7 will be super-sized, for a total of 18 episodes (compared to the 13-episode format in past seasons).

“We are very proud that, despite a very challenging financial climate, CBC continues to deliver a television schedule that features strong, proven Canadian programming,” said Christine Wilson, Executive Director, Content for CBC English Services in a press release with regards to the show's renewal.
