It was the sound of a “large bang, just like thunder” that convinced David Elgar to take out his phone.
The St. Anthony, N.L. resident had been out for a walk with his brother to take some pictures of a tall iceberg foundering in the mouth of the town’s harbour on Saturday evening.

Elgar told The Huffington Post Canada he turned around right after hearing the large crack and saw a huge chunk of the iceberg fall out the middle, rolling into the ocean.
And he didn’t have to wait long to watch the iceberg split again. But this time, he caught the haunting spectacle all on video.
“It was pretty cool, I was definitely at the right place at the right time,” he said.
