Peters' Drive-In is beginning to take shape in its new Red Deer location.
Posts to the restaurant's Twitter account show the new building outfitted with windows and a concrete floor, with the promise to be open sometime this spring.
There have even been employment callouts, announcing that the iconic restaurant chain is now hiring for their new location.
Peters', a long-standing favourite among Calgarians, announced it was looking at new locations last fall.
“The owners are looking at Edmonton and Saskatoon stores as well as other business opportunities. Instead of having a franchise system, each location will be corporate-owned, allowing better quality control," George Berry of Berry Architecture & Associates, told the Red Deer Advocate on behalf of owners Joanne Rowe and Stephen Hayden.
Peters' was established in Calgary in 1962 by Gus Pieters, and changed ownership in 2005. It has been a Calgary icon for more than 50 years, attracting people from Alberta, and beyond, with their famous burgers and milkshakes.
“People we actually had visiting us at the Calgary location from places like Edmonton, Red Deer and all over Alberta quite frankly, actually all over Canada, but certainly a lot of Albertans visiting Peters’ Drive-In, not just Calgarians,” Rowe told 660 News about the decision to open a new location.
Peters' will open on Leva Avenue on the west side of the QEII Highway, and will share an identical menu and a similar look and feel as the original Calgary location.
