Canadian musical legend Rita MacNeil died Tuesday night at age 68 due to complications from surgery, according to a statement released on her website.

Anne Murray, Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Liberal leader Justin Trudeau, NDP leader Thomas Mulcair, East Coast rock icon Joel Plaskett, CBC radio star Jian Ghomeshi, Bob Rae and many others, including the Trailer Park Boys, took to Twitter to remember MacNeil and her musical legacy.
