On Wednesday, a Michigan couple with 12 sons welcomed their 13th child – another boy!

Kateri and Jay Schwandt have a tradition of not finding out their baby’s gender in advance, so they had no clue they would be continuing their all-male streak. The newest addition to their family was born four days late on May 13.

“It's a BOY!” Jay announced on Facebook. “Now we need to choose a name! BLESSED beyond belief!”

A genetics counselor told Michigan Live that the chance of having 12 sons in a row is 0.02 per cent.

Mom Kateri comes from a family of 14 children, so she has experience with big families. While she believes having a girl just isn’t in the cards for her, she says she’s happy with all her boys.

“It doesn't matter at this point,” the 40-year-old mom said. “If we had a little girl that would be neat. But I would be just as happy if we had a little boy.”

Her husband, however, disagrees. “If I could put my order in, I would root for a girl,” he said. “I've done all the boy stuff. I'd just like to experience it from the other side once.”

There is now a 21 year difference between the couple’s newborn and their eldest son Tyler. Their other kids include Zach, 19, Drew, 18, Brandon, 16, Tommy, 13, Vinnie, 12, Calvin, 10, Gabe, 8, Wesley, 6, Charlie, 5, Luke, 3, and Tucker, who turns 2 in August.

Of being a mom to 13 kids, Kateri told The Grand Rapids Press, “Your children are a little piece of you. Every day is Mother's Day. They will bring me flowers that they pick in the yard. Even if it's a dandelion, it's special because they were thinking of Mom.”
