Stompin' Tom Connors' Family Calls For Food Bank Donations

Tributes and memorials have poured in for legendary singer Stompin' Tom Connors, who passed away on Wednesday night.

The singer left a moving letter to his fans and the singer's family is doing something else to ensure the outpouring of emotion over his death helps Canadians in need.

"In lieu of flowers, the Connors family has asked that donations be made to your local food bank or homeless shelters, in memory of Stompin' Tom," they wrote on the singer's official website.

Food Banks Canada, the umbrella organization that represents food banks across the country tweeted out the family's request.

That post was retweeted more than a 100 times. The site also has a food bank locator so you can find a location near you.

Born to a single mother in New Brunswick, Stompin' Tom Connors became one of the most successful and iconic Canadian singer-songwriters. Many of his songs chronicled the lives of working-class Canadians.

A public memorial will be held March 13 at the Memorial Centre in Peterborough, Ontario.
