Top Tips For Travel Skincare

When travelling, the skin can become rather dehydrated. Often at times, the business, associated with travel can add stress, which also interrupts your skin's natural levels of moisture production. If flying, or spending more times outdoors, the water levels in the skin can also be robbed by recycled air and the environment (sun/ wind).

I love traveling (who doesn't?) and I recently wrote about the best local spots in Victoria, BC. The only drawback to traveling is, that it can take a toll on my skin. On a long flight, my skin can get dehydrated dry and flaky, or it can have some breakouts (due to the stress).

To find out all the top tips on how you can keep your skin looking amazing and glowing for your next vacation, I spoke with Education Manager Charmaine Cooper at Dermalogica Canada. Charmaine shared with me the top tips for travel skincare.

What can happen to your skin when you are traveling?

When travelling, the skin can become rather dehydrated. Often at times, the business, associated with travel can add stress, which also interrupts your skin's natural levels of moisture production. If flying, or spending more times outdoors, the water levels in the skin can also be robbed by recycled air and the environment (sun/ wind).

What are the best tips for caring for your skin when you are on a trip?

Tip: Always consider the climate you will be spending your vacation in. If travelling to tropical destination, sun exposure will be a detrimental factor.

Tip: Be sure to bring a lot of sun protection products on your travels. You should also consider using after-sun products to soothe and recover the skin.

Tip: If you are gearing up for a ski trip, you will benefit from products that reinforce the skin's natural lipid barrier.

Travel tips for guy's skin care?

When traveling, guys tend to be out of sorts in new environments, and often opt to skip out on basic skin care habits. Skin care is always a priority but always keep the regimen simple. Cleanse with a double action cleanser, that also exfoliates.

This helps removes dirt, while also removing dead skin cells, while lifting the beard for a closer shave!

Always use a moisturizer with a built in protective factor. Whenever you shave, the skin is extra sensitive and bare. It is important to shield the skin, especially when in travel mode.

How to care for your skin on a flight and arrive looking fresh?

Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate. Airplane travel, especially when frequent, can exasperate skins electrolyte balance. You will lose far more moisture when exposed to the arid airplane air.

Why is it important to care for your skin while you are away?

When away/ or travelling, there are many other things on the mind. Often, our eating habits and hydrating habits also change when travelling. This inevitably will impact and affect the skin, in that it can show more abnormalities when travelling, then at home.

This can show up as breakout activity, dehydration, dull skin complexion and flakes on the skin. So, taking the time to put back into the skin, what it is lacking is critical to maintain health.

Easy tips to remove makeup are as follows:

1. Use a gentle eye makeup remover, as the skin around the eyes if much thinner and more delicate than the rest of the face.

2. Always double cleanse the face. Our skin carries, throughout the day, both oil-based dirt (makeup) and water based dirt (skin secretions). Cleansing once will not effectively remove both types of debris from the skin.

First use a natural lightweight oil based cleanser for your first cleanse, to easily melt away makeup, without compromising the skin. For your second cleanse, use your skin condition specific cleanser. Feel the difference.

Any other tips?

Huge part of caring for the skin is eating a healthy and balanced diet. This is very easy to miss during travel. It can impact your digestion and ultimately show on the skin. Be sure to work in some variety of fruits and vegetables into your diet, and don't forget to drink plenty of water.

Stay hydrated. Your hydration can come in the form of water or add a slice of lemon for some extra flavor.

Treat your neck as part of your face routine. The neck area has thinner skin, and a lower threshold of moisture retention. Take your full routine of products to the neck also.

I love all these skincare tips for travel. I am going to use these helpful tips as I continue to expand by beauty routine!

Your suggestions are always welcome, as I continue on my journey to live life to the fullest. Let's have the very best 2016!
