Whistler Medical Marijuana Corp. Issues Recall Over Mouldy Pot

Mouldy Weed Subject Of Latest Health Canada Recall

A mouldy batch of White Widow pot is the target of the latest medical marijuana recall by Health Canada.

Whistler Medical Marijuana Corp. is voluntarily recalling the lot after tests showed the product contained mould. The tests were conducted after Health Canada inspectors learned customers had complained about the product’s appearance.

The company’s marijuana stock is all organically grown.

The government agency, which oversees the regulation of the fledgling medical marijuana industry, said though mould doesn’t present a significant risk to healthy Canadians, it could cause infections for Canadians whose immune systems have been weakened by other illnesses.

Many of Canada’s some 40,000 registered medical marijuana patients take the drug to help offset pain and other symptoms of serious illnesses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis or AIDS. But the company says it hasn’t received any reports of adverse effects.

Whistler Medical Marijuana, which could not be immediately reached for comment, is advising clients to stop using product from the batch.

Patients can either return any unused product to the company or destroy it at home using Health Canada’s preferred method, adding water and mixing it with cat litter.

It is the third recall of medical marijuana since April, when the government’s new licensed producer program was implemented.
