The federal government is working to reform sick-day policy.
There is some debate as to whether or not being sick at work does increase the chances for a small-scaled outbreak. After all, unless a person comes into contact with the bodily fluids of a sick person, the risk may seem remote at best. It's generally known as personal distancing of the two-metre rule.
Here are four initiatives from my One Fit City program to recharge the workplace. The workplace Instagram/Twitter fitness challenge -- monthly giveaways at work for the best social media posts about being active. Not just the gym, and not just the high intensity stuff.
What if you were in a horrible job and it resulted in more visits to the doctor's office? What if the Western world was actually getting unhealthier as a result of unhappy careers and even unhappier workplace environments? What if there were health consequences to the predicament employees face in their current positions?
Workplace programs should increase knowledge about mental health issues, decrease stigma and increase the ease with which workers can seek help. And yet, in this period of global financial turmoil, some of the first programs cut are exercise benefits and workplace health programs.
