The truth is most of us cannot achieve a majority of our dreams and just when we think we did, we realize that there's still something hollow and unfulfilling within our inner selves. We are fed constantly with an unrealistic philosophy of optimism; one of the many defensive strategies conjured to fill the void created in one's inner self. The notion that life is auspicious and alluring has to be embedded into our minds in order to deflect and distract us from the epilogue.
The world, the universe, the quantum universes, and the quantum of the quantum ones will continue existing for trillions of years, possibly infinite, so the life you proclaimed to have lived well, in its size, will not even come close to a grain of sand in a vast endless desert.
Fragments of self are swallowed up, bit by bit, in the voracious maw of Alzheimer's. So many pieces flew away over the years , I found myself wondering what is self? Which aspects of it are essential? What makes us human? What is left when self disappears?
The Scole Experimental Group carried out hours of experiments and seances which allegedly provided many physical objects appearing in the room, images and texts appearing on blank film, and two-way conversations taking place via a technological device constructed by the group but dictated to them from a "spirit team."
Christians, particularly, have a compelling reason to believe in eternal life. Not only did Jesus speak often about the life that awaits us in heaven, but he then rose from the dead and, during forty days, appeared to hundreds of people. A betting man would not want to ignore that clue.
