Every house has a panoramic view of the Rockies.
But the province is still clinging to a lack of sales tax.
And the vacancy rate just hit a 25-year high.
Similar economies, opposite fiscal realities.
The Whitecourt Esso Super Station nabbed this year's crown.
Gains in oil, employment and the GDP are all predicted for next year.
"It'll be a once-in-a-lifetime flavour."
Don't call it a comeback, however...
"Please accept this as a thank you for being responsible."
These tour guides come to you.
"I chase behind employers to return my calls and emails."
It's not looking good.
"...alienating 99% of people isn't a winning strategy."
With 30 plus years of construction experience on his side, Steve Zaleschuk started his business, Finished Right Contracting last fall. He educated himself on the tiny home movement, researched materials, and tiny home building plans, developed a website, and simply got to work. He hasn't looked back since.
In 2014, 25 Albertans died in farm-related accidents.
But when it comes to jobs, the eighties were worse.
"If I need to find another employee it is so easy."
And so ends a 23-year tradition in the province.
