A certain, lesser-known kind of marijuana can help you lose weight. It can even help you stay slim, too. I'm serious -- even though some readers presumably think I must be smoking something funny to make such a seemingly crazy claim. After all, pot is known for stimulating the appetite -- commonly known as "getting the munchies" -- and encouraging cravings for unhealthy carbohydrates like potato chips or cookies.
Marijuana's bad boy image has been getting a well-earned makeover in recent years, thanks in part to its surging popularity as a legitimate form of herbal medicine. In fact, it's not cannabis' infamous THC content that's creating a real buzz these days. Instead, it's a lesser-known chemical called CBD that is attracting much of the attention.
As Charlotte began to starve from not being able to consume food, it seemed inevitable that Dravet Syndrome would claim Charlotte's young life. With nothing left to lose, Charlotte's dad began to research experimental treatments -- he found one case in California, where medicinal marijuana helped to curb violent seizures in a young patient.
