Confessions of a Middle-Aged Hippie

Although we have more leisure time in our lives, we are having less fun. We could reap the benefits throughout our lives if we would give ourselves permission to indulge in some childlike fun. Realizing that I might not have been taking fun seriously, I'm committed to now share freely my own particular brand of fun without hesitation with anyone who asks.
What motivates women to spend so much money in an attempt to retain their youthful beauty, when too often the results have them looking like an "unreal" version of their former self? (That's being kind.) Do women really believe beauty comes from the outside-in?
It wasn't the first time I've seen James Taylor. In fact this could have been the 10th or 11th or the 20th. I've lost track. I do remember the first time though. And I remember how his music has been a thread weaving together the soundtrack of my life.
Growing up in the 50's and 60's, my mother Lillian was primarily a "stay-at-home"mother. It's not that she didn't have high aspirations for her future, as she dreamed of being a dancer. However, times required she go to work directly after graduating high school as a bookkeeper for a dress manufacturer, her professional dancing dreams dashed.
November 22, 1963. A day everyone remembers as the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated. The whole world mourned America's "loss of innocence". For me, it became a pivotal day. A day that changed my life - forever. I experienced my own personal loss of innocence. A loss that would inform the rest of my life.
Is it possible that creativity expressed through the arts, is a path to peace? It seemed that if we could take the frustration and separation people experience in our current world and invite them into a community to make art together, we'd foster a sense of belonging and connectedness and through this, some magical new creation would become possible.
