Matthew Harvey, a British Columbia resident, was permanently banned from the United States because he admitted to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (USCBP) officer in 2014 that he had previously smoked marijuana. But why does this occur and what can be done if it happens to you?
The reality is that crime fuels a multi-billion dollar industry; I am not talking about the money generated from those who commit crimes, but the system designed to stop them: The Justice System. Not only does it contribute to our economic system but it actually gives the majority of its participants a purpose and an identity. So far, his biggest alignment has been with illegal activity. Not a great start.
Do bears answer the call of nature in the woods? Are telemarketers annoying? Do police officers lie in court? The answer to each question is an overwhelming YES. Those officers who believe that that the justice system is a game to be won at all costs are simply missing the point. I am happy to report, however, that the days of complete immunity for police officers who play Pinocchio in open court may be over.
