Now Justin Trudeau is defining Canada, at home and abroad. But of course, Canada has defined Justin Trudeau. Can we imagine anyone who is more quintessentially Canadian, in his open, compassionate, and thoughtful style; and thoroughly bilingual, to boot?

After the polls had long been decided, election night between Stephen Harper and Justin Trudeau played out like some kind of modern day lore -- an exceptionally crafted story of hero and villain, rising and falling with each playing their part flawlessly.

Canada is selling ultra-modern fighting machines, routinely fitted with large-calibre guns, cannons and mortars -- unequivocally covered by Canada's military export control policy. If the deal proceeds, let us not forget that it did so with full prior knowledge of export safeguards and of the end user's abysmal human rights record.

Attention is turning to what the Liberals plan to do when they formally assume office in just a couple weeks. Many Canadians will be watching very closely to see what the Liberals are planning on the reckless secret police bill introduced by the previous government.

“I think Conservatives have consistently underestimated Justin for years and years and years,” a senior Liberal said.

Stephen Harper is not telling the full story. He just wants to win the election. And once supply management is dead, how long will our producers be able to count on subsidies from a government committed to balancing the budget by making cuts?
