One of my bigger struggles as a professional organizer is how to translate my routines and processes into sharable tips and advice. So much of how I live my life in terms of my daily routines have become so automated that it can be hard for me to realize its efficiency until I step back and look at it.
Let me share with you a disappointing experience of mine with regards to gender bias in the corporate world.
Our homes should be for the pieces that we really love or really need. Why have things if not to enjoy them. And on that note, if you're holding onto things that don't' "spark joy" (as Marie Kondo would say), then maybe it is time to just let it go.
I often say that there is no magic wand to get you organized. And there isn't. But there are a few tricks you can use to maximize the space that you already have that can seem like magic (kind of). I recently reorganized a client's kitchen and we cleared out no less than eight junk drawers.
While organizing a space isn't rocket science, it's not always intuitive either. There are so many things beyond our control that can contribute to a lack of organization. Both major and minor life events can cause our plans to shift and our routines to go out of whack. School ending, a change in jobs, the birth of a new baby, adding a family pet, the death of a loved one. It's not always easy to adapt to these changes without feeling overwhelmed.
As a nursing mom to a ravenous newborn I am constantly hungry, so I spent many frustrating hours searching through the fridge looking for food. One day I just couldn't take it anymore and I pulled EVERYTHING out. There are few things more satisfying to me than emptying a space thoroughly cleaning it out and putting everything back in an organized way.
Being organized about meals doesn't necessarily mean you need to be super structured about it. One of the most common push backs to meal planning I hear is that people don't want to be stuck eating a specific meal on a specific day. I totally get that.
Facebook is a very busy place these days, most people's newsfeeds are so busy they can hardly keep up and it's so full of marketing and promotional content, it can be really hard to stand out. But, if you know when your fans are on Facebook you can post near to that time to get the best chance of being in their newsfeed while they are looking at it.
Call it what you want, the vestibule, mudroom, foyer, it's the first impression you have of a home and if you don't have a good organizational system setup that works for you and your family you will constantly be fighting a losing battle. Much like any other room that needs organizing there are many factors that come into play that will help determine what is going to work for you.
