It's good to be a Canadian traveller.
Our passport power is very similar to the U.S.
Booking a flight involves charging a large sum of money to your credit card. What isn't stressful about that? Many times, the stress of booking a flight causes shoppers to make mistakes that cost them even more cash. Airline industry experts have noticed the same booking mistakes occurring again and again.
Short answer: yes.
My passport had plenty of time on it for just my trip to Rwanda -- but I am going to Kenya after and by then, my passport would have had about four months left on it. I decided not to risk it and got my passport renewed (even paid a pretty penny to put a rush on it!). I thought "Now I'll be fine, right?" Wrong! When I showed up to the airport in Toronto, all ready to head off for my African adventure, I was not allowed to get on the plane...
Understandably, due to the tragedy of 10 years ago, governments have sought stronger security. But, as the pursuit of greater security continues, it doesn't have to come at privacy's expense. Privacy is not an unconditional entitlement and there may be cases when its protections must give way to meet a greater good.
The government will attempt to strip some 1,800 people of their Canadian citizenship as it is alleged it was obtained through fraudulent means. Good for the government. This move can serve as a signal to the rest of the world that our citizenship is something to be valued.
