We didn't want charity, especially when we needed it the most. Yet it was the blind kindness of strangers that made the toughest of times a little less daunting. A full belly was one of our first steps towards a fuller life. What was once a source of shame for my family is now an important part of our story.
We haven't needed an airport north of Pickering in the last 40 years; we don't need one now. But the issue is bigger than that. The GTA will continue to grow. But it must do so sustainably. To our inevitable demise do we go if we destroy that which sustains us. Our farmlands sustain us.
A municipal ban offers optimal protection for wildlife, domestic animals and people from all body-gripping traps. It sends a clear message to those trapping illegally that Toronto does not tolerate this violence. It offers Toronto a clear and swift enforcement tool when/if a situation like the one involving these beavers occurs again.
