prostate cancer
This month is about more than just growing your 'stache.
The support of other men helped me get through the many challenges nobody seems to talk about.
Especially colon, prostate and pancreas cancers.
I have enjoyed living and working in Toronto for the past 35 years, calling Blue Jays games across our great country. But I have also enjoyed just as much sharing my story during the month of Movember in hopes of helping other men realize how valuable early detection is in fighting prostate cancer at the most treatable stages.
There is no conclusive evidence that men can prevent prostate cancer but a lot of research is being done to look at diet and physical activity as well as supplementation (for example, with vitamins). The most important thing you can do is yearly screening with a PSA test and DRE after age 50; because although we may not know the most effective ways to prevent prostate cancer now, we know that early detection is key...

When the results came back, the bacterium was found in 60 per cent of the prostate cancer cases, as opposed to 26 per cent of the controls. Although the team had hoped to see 100 per cent presence in tumours and zero in the controls, the results were still significant.
Collaboration itself is not a new word, but for the world of cancer research it's an innovative approach. My view is that we need to collaborate to maximize investment and increase research capabilities. Personal interests such as profit, competition, rivalry or recognition need to be put aside.
"I will undergo surgery with the hope of defeating this nemesis."
