Watch: Make-Up Artiste Charu Khurana Wins Battle Against Sexist Bollywood

Charu Khurana, a make-up artist working in the Hindi film industry, won a 60-year-old battle on Monday by becoming the first woman to be registered by the Cine Costume Make-Up Artist & Hair Dressers' Association (CCMAA).

This recognition, of finally breaking into Bollywood's traditionally all-male domain of make-up artists, is the result of a 5-year-long battle Khurana fought in the Supreme Court to allow women the same opportunity.

In a video posted by mobile news outlet The Quint the same day, Khurana, who has had the honour of doing make-up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi as well as US President Barack Obama, speaks about her fight against chauvinism.

In the minute-long video, she says that women have so far only been given "entitlement as hair-dressers", not make-up artistes. Even though the SC judgement was delivered in November, Khurana says that women have still not been welcomed in the industry "100% wholeheartedly".
