Rescue personnel have pulled out a child from the debris and he has been rushed to a nearby hospital, an official said.
NDRF said its search and rescue operations continued the whole night and was still on.
The ‘Kesarbai’ building, located in a narrow lane in Tandel Street of Dongri area of south Mumbai, crashed around 11.40 am, a BMC disaster management cell official said.
The bodies of seven Army personnel and a civilian have been extricated so far from the debris, officials said.
Rescuers feared some people were still trapped under the debris as they heard voices coming from inside.
The building collapsed on Tuesday evening at Kumareshwaranagar in the heart of Dharwad.
CM HD Kumaraswamy has directed the chief secretary to supervise the rescue operation.
Reports say three teams of the NDRF are carrying out rescue operations.
