Concert Crowd at Osheaga 2009 festival, waiting for Coldplay. The Osheaga Music & Arts Festival was held at Parc Jean-Drapeau on Ãle Sainte-Hélène island, and headlined by Coldplay and Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Lot of performers from the lineup were performing at the All Points West Festival 2009 a day before in New York City.Looks great in bigger size. Promise!I have seen several concert crowds over the years (actually just 2 years), but the Osheaga Crowd beat others down to the ground. I badly under-estimated what 30 thousand meant on the first day, and ended up quiet far away from the stage. Though was slowly able to crawl my way to the middle. No doubt Coldplay can pull such big numbers easily.Thankfully, this was not a heavy rock crowd, otherwise there would have been a huge stampede with people jumping, dancing and pushing. Not to mention people crowd surfing and doing stage jumps.I am still figuring out a lot of gems in this photo. Put up a note if you find anything wacky.Some of the artists I got to see included Coldplay, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Jason Mraz, The Decemberists, Arctic Monkeys, Vampire Weekend, Girl Talk, Rufus Wainwright, The Roots, The Stills, Tiga, Lykke Li and Elbow. Le site du parc Jean-Drapeau sera aménagé de façon à faire passer sa capacité d'accueil de 45 000 à 65 000 personnes. Rien pour rassurer les citoyens de Saint-Lambert qui se plaignent du bruit alors que les haut-parleurs seront orientés... vers la Rive-Sud.
Selon les informations données aux journalistes, des tests de son ont été réalisés sur le site. Peu importe l'orientation des hauts-parleurs, des plaintes de bruit ont été enregistrées. La ville de Montréal a donc choisi l'orientation naturelle du site.
Visiblement, la Société du Parc Jean-Drapeau veut attirer davantage de spectacles sur cet amphithéâtre naturel. Actuellement, seuls les festivals Osheaga, Heavy Montréal et IleSoniq amènent un important flot de spectateurs. Quelques autres événements ponctuels (comme le spectacle d'Arcade Fire en 2013) sont parfois organisés.
La Ville de Montréal et le gouvernement du Québec investiront 70,4 millions de dollars pour réaménager l'ensemble du secteur ouest de l'île Sainte-Hélène.
Le projet devait être réalisé pour le 375e anniversaire de Montréal en 2017, mais des irrégularités dans les contrats ont forcé le report du projet de deux ans.
Le projet comprend un élargissement du chemin qui va du métro jusqu'au fleuve Saint-Laurent. Une promenade le long de la rive avec vue sur la ville sera aussi aménagée.
En entrevue avec Alain Gravel à Gravel le matin, le chef de l'Opposition officielle, Luc Ferrandez, a affirmé ne pas être favorable au projet d'amphithéâtre naturel. Il dit avoir l'impression que le projet sert à alléger les coûts d'installations récurrents pour evenko et pour les autres organisateurs de festival.
« À première vue, je ne vois pas l'intérêt du projet. [...] Je pense qu'il faut questionner la croissance de ces événements et laisser le coût de l'installation aux organisateurs de festivals et de concerts », explique Luc Ferrandez.
